A graduate in Product Design from PUC-Rio with a postgraduate degree in Marketing from FAAP, Hakim Hazim has spent more than twenty years creating furniture and accessories for retail. He credits much of that training to the years he spent on the Tok&Stok design team, where he learned to think through a product from the drawing board to the store shelf and to respect what the factory floor has to say about a project.

Now at the head of Overseas Design, he is driven by curiosity and by a simple question: what is the most direct solution that the production process and the available raw materials allow. It is from this reasoning, and not from elaborate design for its own sake, that the pieces he signs are born. His path has also led him to serve on design award juries and to champion an idea that runs through all of his work — that good design is not a niche privilege.
